• Living things show movement. We also know that there are different types of motion. Before we discuss mation, let us try to understand what is really meant by the terms 'rest' and 'motion' When the position of a body with respect to its surroundings does not change with time, the body is said to be at rest. For example, a book lying on the table is at rest

• When the position of a body with respect to its surroundings changes with time, the body is said to be in motion. For example, a running train is in motion.When we look around moving objects, we notice that they'undergo different kinds of motion. For example, a car moves straight along the road, an electric fan rotates, and the pendulum of a clock moves sideways in either direction.
