Motion :

Motion is the change in the position of an object with respect to it's surroundings in a given interval of time.

Types of motion :

  1. simple harmonic motion.( eg : pendulum )
  2. linear motion.
  3. reciprocal motion.
  4. Brownian motion. ( eg : random movement of particles )
  5. circular motion. ( eg : orbits of planet )
  6. rotary motion.( eg : Ferris wheel )
  7. curvilinear motion.
  8. rotational motion.
  9. rolling motion. ( eg : wheel of the bicycle )
  10. oscillatory motion. ( eg : swinging from side to side )
  11. vibrating motion.
  12. combination motion.
  13. projectile motion.

Motion, in physics, change with time of the position or orientation of a body. Motion along a line or a curve is called translation. Motion that changes the orientation of a body is called rotation. In the world of mechanics, there are four basic types of motion. These four are rotary, oscillating, linear and reciprocating. Each one moves in a slightly different way and each type of achieved using different mechanical means that help us understand linear motion and motion control.
