Answer:

motion means displacement or change in the position of an object over time. It can be described in terms of displacement, distance, velocity etc. eg pushing a block is an example of linear motion, opening a door is an example of rotation, rotating stone with attached thread is an example of a circular motion.

Answer:

Motion: An object is said to be in motion if it changes it's position with time, with respect to it's surroundings.

Examples:

A bird flying in air ( bird is changing it's position with time)

A train moving on rails

A ship sailing on water.

A man walking on road.

These examples are visible to eye.

Motion of gas molecules is also an example of motion and is invisible to eye.

Explanation:

Every physical process in the universe is composed of motion of some sort. The motion can either be swift or slow, but motion exists.

Motion is mainly described in terms of the following terms:

  • Distance( it is tha actual path traversed by the object in the given time.)
  • Displacement( it is the shortest distance between the initial and final positions of object in the given time)
  • Speed( of an object in motion is the ration of total path length and the corresponding time taken by the object)

There are mainly three types of motion of a body.

  1. Rectilinear Motion: is the motion where a point mass body is moving along a straight line. Example- A body slipping along the inclined plane.
  2. Circular or Rotatory Motion: is a sort of motion in which the object moves in a circle. This kind of motion happens whilst an object rotates at its own place or axis. Example- Earth rotating on its own axis about the sun
  3. Oscillatory Motion: is that motion where body moves to and fro or back and forth repeatedly about a fixed point in a definite interval of time. Example: motion of pendulum of wall clock.

Note: A person sitting in a moving train is at rest with respect to fellow passengers but is is motion with respect to the objects outside the train.
