Motion in a straight line:

  • Motion in a straight line is called as rectilinear motion. This motion is one dimensional it can be represented in a plane.

  • There can be two types of motion in a straight line it can be uniform linear motion and non uniform linear motion.

  • Example of a motion in straight line is a car going through the straight race track.

  • The position of the object is x a variable time with a variable t. In one dimensional object.

  • There are two factors which are important in the motion in a straight line Displacement and Velocity.

  • Displacement of the object is determined by the final position of the object minus the initial position of the object. Delta x = x2 - x1.

  • Average Velocity is the the final velocity minus initial velocity / final time - initial time. Vavg = Delta x / Delta t

  • The SI unit of average velocity is ms^-1. Jérk  is the rate of change of acceleration.
