Motion in one dimension

When motion of an object is confined to a straight line only, then the motion of object is called motion in one dimension.

Example-

  • A car moving on a straight road
  • A ball falling vertically from some height

Equations for one dimensional motion

For a body in one dimensional motion,

\longrightarrow\pink{\boxed{\bf{v=u+at}}}

\longrightarrow\purple{\boxed{\bf{s=ut+\frac{1}{2}at^{2}}}}

\longrightarrow\orange{\boxed{\bf{v^{2}-u^{2}=2as}}}

where,

u is initial velocity of body

v is final velocity of body

t is time taken of body

a is acceleration of body

s is displacement of body

Additional Formula-

Distance travelled by body in nth second is given by

\longrightarrow\blue{\boxed{\bf{s_{n}=u+\frac{1}{2}a(2n-1)}}}
