MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) is a special tool used for constructing detailed images of internal organs and tissues in the body using radio waves and magnets. It provides important diagnostic information that can't be provided by other techniques. It is a painless and quick process.
- It can be used to depict small hidden within the internal organs like liver, glands, heart and blood vessels or cancerous tissues in the body.
- Can be used to scan bones, joints to identify damage.
- Important in central nervous system diagnosis like sclerosis and strokes.
- Even helps in examining the brain, neck and spinal cords to find any abnormalities,

Our body consists of mostly water molecules.Water molecules consist of oxygen and hydrogen atoms. Now hydrogen atoms have protons which are very sensitive to magnetic fields. When a person lies under this large tube containing powerful magnets the protons in your body line up in the same direction of the magnets. The radio waves sent to the certain area of body knock of the protons out of the alignment and after this the radio signals are turned off and then protons realign. This sends out radio signals which are picked up by recievers.
These signals provide detailed info about the location of the protons in the body and help to distinguish the various tissues in the body as protons of different tissues realign at different speeds producing distinct signals.

Vanshgupta: plz give its importsnce too

Answer:- MRI stands for Magnetic Resonance Imaging.

The magnetism produced inside the human body by the flow of ionic currents forms the basis of a technique called magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

Importance:-

1. It is used to obtain images of the internal parts of our body.

2. It is obvious that magnetism has an important use in medical diagnosis.
