Mucus membrane:

A mucus membrane or mucosa is a membrane that lines various cavities in the body and covers the surface of internal organs. It is made up of one or more layers of epithelial cells overlying a layer of loose connective tissue.

Mucus is secreted by....

Stomach-

Foveolar cells are mucus-producing cells, which cover the inside of the stomach, protecting it from the corrosive nature of gastric acid. The mucus produced by these cells is extremely important, as it prevents the stomach from digesting itself.

Duodenum -

Brunner's glands (or duodenal glands) are compound tubular submucosal glands present in the duodenum. The main function of these glands is to produce a mucus-rich alkaline secretion (containing bicarbonate) in order to: protect the duodenum from the acidic content of chyme (which is introduced into the duodenum from the stomach); provide an alkaline condition for the intestinal enzymes to be active, thus enabling absorption to take place and lubricate the intestinal walls.

Large intestine -

Goblet cells reside throughout the length of the small and large intestine and are responsible for the production and maintenance of the protective mucus blanket by synthesizing and secreting high-molecular-weight glycoproteins, known as mucins.

What are mucus secreting cells....

The main role of goblet cells is to secrete mucus in order to protect the mucous membranes where they are found. Goblet cells accomplish this by secreting mucins, large glycoproteins formed mostly by carbohydrates.

What happens if there is no mucus in the Oesophagus ?

➯The cells in the oesophagus produce mucus which helps in the movement of the food in the downward direction by peristalsis.

➯When there is no mucus production, the cells in the lining of the oesophagus will dry out. This will cause obstruction in the smooth passage of the food.

➯Sometimes, there will be the loss in the functioning of the muscles in these regions resulting in the problem in the forward movement of food.

Mucus cell (goblet cell) is Unicellular gland.....

A goblet cell is known as unicellular gland as because they are made up of single celled secretory cells. It is a glandular simple columnar epithelial cell, whose function is to secrete gel-forming mucins, the major components of mucus.

</p><p>\huge{\bold{\red{\ PUTREFACTION;}}}

Definition:

Putrefaction is the process in which the complex molecules such as proteins are broken down into smaller and simple molecules i.e amino acids. It is an important process in the recycling of the minerals and nitrogen.

additional information...

➯Marine telecosts excrete trimethylamine oxide as the major nitrogenous waste product, which is soluble in water and non-toxic in nature.

➯When marine telecosts undergoes putrefaction trimethylamine oxide is reduced to trimethylamine by the enzyme trimethylamine oxidase, which emits sharp characteristic foul odor of spoiled fish.

hope it helps you:)
