Mutation is a change that takes place in the DNA.

EXPLANATION:

DNA changes can take place over time because of several reasons in organisms. It is mutation which is responsible for genetic variations in species.

Sometimes mutation takes place when DNA is replicated in the wrong manner. Mutation can also take place because of environmental factors like sunlight and radiations. Mutation can also sometimes disrupt the normal cell activity and cause diseases of several types.
