the symbiotic relationship between host plants and the mycorrhizal fungus is mutualistic, or mutually beneficial. Mycorrhizal fungi come into direct contact with plant roots and with the soil, adding to the plants ability to gather nutrients and water from the soil through the fungus.

Hello!
The symbioses between mycorrhizal fungi and plant roots are referred to as mycorrhizae.
In simple words, It can sometimes allow for the ‘stealing’ of nutrients from one plant from another plant. They also provide protection from plant predators and pathogens.
Mycorrhizal fungi play three critical roles :-
Native mycorrhizal fungi will respond to invasions by other exotic species.
Introduced mycorrhizal fungi can facilitate the invasion of introduced plants.
The mycorrhizal fungi can themselves invade novel habitats, either with introduced plants, or after association with native plants.
Cheers!
