what is n+l rule according to that rule explain the energy of 4S orbital is lower than 3D

meenakshi997sa: n+l rule is for multi electron system....... here.... n=principal quantum number....l= azimuthal quantum number..... as per this rule more the value of n+l value more will be energy... so in case of 4s...n+l=4+0=4.... in case of 3d....n+l=3+2=5..... as 5>4 ..... so.... energy of 3d is more than 4s
meenakshi997sa: for hydrogen like species we use n value to determine energy

According to n+l rule while filling electrons lower energy orbital is preferred
In your case 4s = 4+0 = 4
& 3d = 3+2 = 5
Since 4<5 energy of 4s<3d so electrons are filled first in it.

We say that the 4s orbitals have a lower energy than the 3d, and so the 4s orbitals are filled first. We know that the 4s electrons are lost first during ionization. The electrons lost first will come from the highest energy level, furthest from the influence of the nucleus.
