In encyclopedia of Vedic Science I have with me , I have read that the nakshatras are used for determining personality types, like the Sun signs in Western astrology.A nakshatra is one of 27 (sometimes also 28) sectors along the ecliptic.The nakshatras are also important in horary and electional astrology to determine favourable times for action.
