Murder in the cathedral is play written by T.S. Elliot. It describes the events leading to the assassination Archbishop Thomas Becket of Canterbury Cathedral.
Thomas Becket had turned against the King Henry II, opposing his doctrines and so was at the fate of the King's order. While awaiting his order, Becket is tempted by four tempters. The tempters are illustrated as ghosts in the play.
First tempter
The name of the first tempter is not revealed but it says that he is a friend of Becket as well as King Henry II.
The play was made into a movie in 1951 in which the role of first tempter was played by David Ward.
