Nastic movements are plant movements that occur in response to environmental stimuli but unlike tropic movements, the direction of the response is not dependent on the direction of the stimulus. Some of the most spectacular plant movements are nastic movements. These include the closing of the carnivorous Venus Flytrap leaf when it captures prey or the folding of the mimosa leaf when it is disturbed

Answer:

Nastic movements are specialised movement in plants in response to external stimuli that occurs by altering the turgor pressure in the cells or altering plant growth.

Explanation:

  • Nastic movement is different from tropic movement in plants.
  • In tropic movement, the movement of plant part happens in the direction of the stimuli.
  • In nastic movement, the movement of plant part happens in direction independent of the direction of the external stimuli.
  • Some examples :
  1. Nyctinasty movement : Leaves droop at night and become erect during the day.
  2. Thigmonastic movement : Drooping of the leaves of Mimosa pudica (Touch-me-not) plant in response to touch.
