The National Food Security Act, 2013 (also Right to Food Act) is an Act of the Parliament of India which aims to provide subsidized food grains to approximately two thirds of India's 1.2 billion people. It was signed into law on 12 September 2013, retroactive to 5 July 2013.
Antyodaya anna yojana was launched in december 2000.Under the scheme one crore of the BPL families covered under the targeted public distribution system were identified.Twenty five kilogram of foodgrains were made available to each eligible family at a highly subsidised rate of Rs2 per kg for wheat and Rs 3 per kg for rice.The scheme was further expanded twice by additional 50 lakh families in June 2003 and in August 2004.With this increase 2 crore people have been covered tha AAY.
