Hey friend here is your answer!!!!!
As magnesium is is a metal and oxygen is a non metal with two different charges and of opposite sign it can be concluded that bonding between the two results in formation of an ionic bond which is the most stable and most energy releasing Bond in the whole chemistry . magnesium has a valency of plus two whereas oxygen has a valency of -2 and combination of both of them results into a neutral ionic compound which is known as magnesium oxide.
☺️hope it helps☺️
