Metal oxides are always basic in nature.... It will be basic because on adding water to it will become Mg (OH)2 (Magnesium hydroxide) which is a base!!!!non metallic oxides are always acidic in nature. For example Carbon dioxide (C02) is a non metallic oxide. On adding water to this, carbonic acid will be formed
