Two types of cell division is needed Mitosis in which genetic material remain same whereas in meiosis, the genetic material is halved. Meiosis takes place in formation of gametes. In ovaries, the formation of ova is called oogenesis. In testes,the formation of sperms is called spermatogenesis. Both ovum and spermatozoa contains half of the genetic material ,but when they unite and zygote is formed .As both gametes (male & female) unite the zygote will contain full genetic material which is essential in formation of next generation. For growth ,mitosis other cell division is needed. So both meiosis and mitosis type of cell division are essential.
