In vertebrates, the majority of neurons belong to the central nervous system, but some reside in peripheral ganglia, and many sensory neurons are situated in sensory organs such as the retina and cochlea. A typical neuron is divided into three parts: the soma or cell body, dendrites, and axon. They exist throughout the central nervous system (CNS: including brain and spinal cord) as well as the peripheral nervous system (sensory and motor neurons) which ‘starts’ but extends ‘outward’ from the spinal cord to our internal organs, limbs, etc.

Hey mate! Here is your answer:-
A neuron is an electrically excitable cell that receives, processes, and transmits information through electrical and chemical signals. These signals between neurons occur via specialized connections called synapses. Neurons can connect to each other to form neural circuits. Neurons are the primary components of the central nervous system, which includes the brain and spinal cord, and of the peripheral nervous system, which comprises the autonomic nervous system and the somatic nervous system.

PRESENCE:
The cell bodies of the sensory neurons leading to the spinal cord are located in clusters, the dorsal root ganglia (DRG), next to the spinal cord. Their axon extends in both directions: a peripheral axon to receptors at the periphery and a central axon passing into the spinal cord.

Hope it helps you....
