Reactions between an acid and a base are known as neutralization reactions. On mixing an acid with a base, i.e., in neutralization reaction, salt and water are obtained as products. Also, energy is evolved during the process. The general equation for the neutralization reaction is represented as:
Acid + Base → Salt + Water
For example, when sodium hydroxide (NaOH) is treated with hydrochloric acid (HCl), then a salt, i.e., sodium chloride (NaCl) and water (H2O) are obtained.
