Nichrome is basically a name given to nickel-chromium resistance wires. It is a non-magnetic alloy, which consists of 80 percent nickel and 20 percent chromium by weight, and is widely used in heating elements because of its relatively high resistivity.  Nichrome, the alloy, is silvery in colour, resistant towards corrosion, and has a high melting point.

Nichrome - or resistance wire - is found in electric heaters, stove and oven elements including toasters and toaster ovens electric frying pans, electric coffee makers of all sorts, hot plates, hot pots, crock pots, rice cookers, bread makers, popcorn poppers, dishwasher elements, electric clothes dryers, hair dryers, hair straighteners, electric hair curlers, plastic bag sealers, warming ovens, aquarium heaters, electric ignitors in gas furnaces and water heaters, soldering irons, lamination machines, laser printers, photo copiers, electric water heaters and other appliances that are electric and generate heat.

Nichrome (NiCr, nickel-chrome, chrome-nickel, etc.) is any of various alloys of nickel, chromium, and often iron (and possibly other elements). The most common usage is as resistance wire, although they are also used in some dental restorations (fillings) and in a few other applications.
