Nitrogen Cycle : The complete series of cyclical events by which nitrogen from atmosphere enters into the compositions of organisms and from organisms it is released to the atmoshphere again tp maintain the equilibrium of atmospheric nitrogen is called NITROGEN CYCLE.

Steps : Nitrogen cycle cosnsists of various steps such as - Nitrogen fixation, Ammonification, Nitrification, Denitrification.

Significances :

1] Nitrogen cycle maintains the nitrogen equilibrium in atmosphere.

2] Nitrogen cycle maintains the balance between the gaseous nitrogen and soil nitrates.

3] Nitrogen is an essential component of protein. It is also required for synthesis of nucleic acids like DNA and RNA. So, nitrogen cycle is useful for maintaining the equilibrium of nitrogen.
