Our atmosphere has 78% nitrogen gas.
Nitrogen is one of the essential constituents of all living organisms as part of proteins , chlorophyll, nucleic acids and vitamins. The Nitrogen cycle is biogeochemical process by which nitrogen is interconverted into multiple chemical forms.
In legumes plants it is done in the following ways. Rhizobium is a bacterium . It is involved in the fixation of nitrogen in leguminous plants (pulses). Rhizobium lives in the root nodule of leguminous plants such as peas, beans with which it has a symbiotic relationship . It fixes the atmospheric nitrogen, converts the nitrogen into nitrates and uses these nitrates for growth. Inturn the plant provides food to the Rhizobium.
