The definition of nitrogen fixation and the bacteria doing this is given below:

  • Nitrogen fixation is the natural or industrial process by which the atmospheric nitrogen compounds which are compounds of inert gas are converted into useful nitrogen compounds.
  • Nitrogen is fixed to gases like ammonia, nitrates, or nitrates.
  • The process can be industrial (chemical) or natural (biological).
  • The bacteria which fixes atmospheric nitrogen is Rhizobium. Most of the nitrogen is fixed by this bacteria.
