what is nodes and internodes ?
Answer :-
The stem is normally divided into nodes and internodes: The nodes hold one or more leaves, as well as buds which can grow into branches (with leaves, conifer cones, or inflorescences (flowers)). Adventitious roots may also be produced from the nodes. The internodes distance one node from another.
Answer:
Nodes are point of attachment of the leaf to the primary stem. The length of stem between two nodes is denoted as internode:
Each leaf attached to the plant stem characteristically forms an axillary bud in its axil. The axillary buds give rise to the lateral branches. A lateral branch ,therefore, typically arises at a node.
The internode adds towards the height of plant. A ‘tall’ and ‘dwarf’ plant shall have the same number of leaves but only different inter-nodal lengths ( see fig below: 1. dwarf 2. medium 3. tall). This elongation is typically caused by the ‘gibberellin’ category of hormones.
While planting a young stem cutting for rooting, it is better to ensure that the stem cutting has an internode with intact axillary bud. When the cutting roots the dormant axillary bud readily sprouts into a shoot.
An aged, say 10 year or so old, secondary stem/trunk of tree shall have no remnants of nodes and internodes due to secondary growth.
