A non-renewable source of energy (for example, coal, oil, etc) are energy that is taken from the ground and used faster than it is replaced by mother nature.
For example, we are taken millions of barrels of oil from the earth, when it takes millions of years to convert dead plants and animals into oil.
A renewable resource, on the other hand (for example, solar, wind, etc) are energy that is harnessed, and has no limit to it, as it continues to provide fairly steadily the energy needed for us.
hope this helps
