Blood pressure
Explanation:-
- The force that blood exerts on the wall of a vessel is called blood pressure.
- The blood pressure is much higher in the arteries than in the veins.
- During ventricular systole (i.e. contraction), the pressure of the blood inside the artery is known as the systolic pressure.
- In addition, the pressure in the artery during ventricular diastole (relaxation) is called diastolic pressure.
- The normal measurement of systolic pressure is about 120 mm Hg and diastolic pressure is 80 mm Hg. This increase in pressure is known as hypertension or high blood pressure.
- The device used to calculate blood pressure is named a sphygmomanometer.
