Explanation:

This section covers basic safety training for anyone working with non-infectious or low risk (Risk Group 1) microorganisms, diagnostic/environmental samples not known or suspected to contain pathogens, or handling wastes contaminated with such materials.

Who provides training?

It is the responsibility of the Principal Investigator or Lab Supervisor to make sure you have an adequate understanding of Standard Microbiological Practices before working in a lab environment. The Biosafety Office can also provide this training upon request.

How is training given?

Training is provided at the discretion of the Principal Investigator or Lab Supervisor. A Guidance document and training module are available through the Biosafety website. In-person training is also provided by the Biosafety Office upon request. Contact the Biosafety Office at (865) 974-5547 to schedule training.
