A notice is a very short piece of writing which is usually formal in style. It is normally used by individuals, organisations and institutions to announce event and celebrations, births and deaths, occasion like inaugurations or sales, to issue public instructions, to make appeals and to extend invitations.
Notice are usually put up on notice boards, though they may also be published in newspapers or simply stuck on the wall.
A notice includes the following :
- The name of the organisation or institution on behalf of which the notice is being issued. We call this organisation / institution the issuing authority.
- The date of issuing the notice.
- The word NOTICE, which should be written in capital letters, so as to ensure greater visibility.
- A suitable caption or heading.
- The purpose for which the notice has been written. For example, a meeting, an appeal, a competition, etc.
- Details of schedule, date, time, venue, programme, duration (if the notice is about the event.)
- Signature, name and designation of the person issuing the notice.
