Answer:

A noun is a word for a person, place, or thing. (It might be helpful to think of a noun as a "naming word.") There are different types of noun, but all nouns can be classified as either a proper noun or a common noun. Once we've discussed proper nouns, we will cover common nouns and the nine types of common noun.

A noun is the name of a person, I think, a place, a group, an idea, a system, a concept, etc. For example Archit, apple, kanpur, colonialism, democracy, Physics, etc.

It can be broadly classified into two categories:

Countable: These are nouns which can be counted as one, two, etc.

These can be further divided into three parts:

1. Proper Noun: It is the name of any particular person, place or thing. It is the name of an individual thing, not of a group or class.

Examples:

• Name of a person: Mahesh, Satish, Manisha, etc.

• Name of thing: Ramayana, Bible, etc.

• Name of place: Bengaluru, Chandigarh, etc.

2. Common Noun: It is the name of any large group or class having similar or common characteristics.

• A class of persons having common masculine features: Man

• A class of persons having common feminine features: Woman

3. Collective Noun: It is the name of a group of persons, animals for collection of things.

Examples:

• Flock : A group of sheep.

• Class : A group of students

Uncountable: These are nouns which cannot be counted.

These can be further divided into two parts:

1. Abstract Noun: It is the name of a concept, feeling, quality, action or state. It cannot be touched but we can experience or feel it.

Examples: poverty, honesty, democracy, unemployment, etc.

2. Material Noun: It is the name of the material from which a thing is made. It may be liquid, solid or gas, etc.

Examples: paper, wheat, cement, wood, etc.
