the negatively charged DNA is wrapped around the positively charged histone octamer to form a structure called nucleosome.
Nucleosome constitute the repeating unit of a structure in nucleus called chromatin.

In simple terms, a nucleosome is a DNA thread coiled around histones. Histones are protein complexes. You can imagine them as balls (4 balls) wherein your DNA strand is coiled around it.

This coiling is important during cell division. The end product of the coiling is your chromosome.

Nucleosomes are only found in eukaryotes, basically all organisms except from the bacteria (eubacteria and archaebacteria).
