» Required Answer:

Nutrition is the process of taking food and utilizing it or in other words,

The process of intake of nutrients by the organisms and utilization of these nutrients by the organism is called nutrition.

Different modes of nutrition are:

  • ᴀᴜᴛᴏᴛʀᴏᴘʜɪᴄ ᴍᴏᴅᴇ ᴏꜰ ɴᴜᴛʀɪᴛɪᴏɴ

As the name suggests, 'auto' means 'self' and 'trophe' means 'nutrition'. Therefore in simple words it is 'self nutrition'. In this mode of nutrition, living organisms prepare their own food from the simple inorganic materials or substances like carbon dioxide, water and so on. Those organisms are called autotrophs which prepare their own food by autotrophic nutrition.

For example : All the green plants are autotrophs. They are also called producers. They prepare their own food by the process of photosynthesis.

  • ʜᴇᴛᴇʀᴏᴛʀᴏᴘʜɪᴄ ᴍᴏᴅᴇ ᴏꜰ ɴᴜᴛʀɪᴛɪᴏɴ

As the name suggests 'heteros' means 'others' and 'trophe' means 'nutrition'. Therefore it means getting nutrition from others. In this mode of nutrition, organisms obtain food from others because they cannot make it by own. They depend on other organisms for food.. Those organisms are called heterotrops which prepare their own food by heterotrophic nutrition.

For example : Humans can't prepare their own food, they depend on animals and plants directly or indirectly for food.Other examples are cows, lions, tigers and so on.

  • ꜱᴀᴘʀᴏᴛʀᴏᴘʜɪᴄ ᴍᴏᴅᴇ ᴏꜰ ɴᴜᴛʀɪᴛɪᴏɴ

As the name suggests 'sapro' means 'rotten' and 'trophe' means 'nutrition'. Therefore it means getting nutrition from dead or rotten materials. It is the type of nutrition in which organism obtains its food from dead and decaying organic matter. Those organisms are called saprophytes which prepare their own food by saprotrophic nutrition.

For example : Mushroom get nutrition from dead snd decaying organic matter. Other examples are yeast, moulds and so on.

  • ᴘᴀʀᴀꜱɪᴛɪᴄ ᴍᴏᴅᴇ ᴏꜰ ɴᴜᴛʀɪᴛɪᴏɴ

“It is the mode of nutrition in which an organism derives its food from the another living organism without killing it.” The organism which gets the food is called parasite and the organisms from whose the food is obtained is called host.

For example : Cuscuta ( Amarbel ), it grows on other plants to get nutrients. It is parasite. Other examples are plasmodium, tapeworms and so on.
