Hello man!!

When SO2 is passed through water, we get an oily viscous liquid, which is less corrosive in nature.
SO2 + H2O -----> H2SO3
Actually we get sulphurous acid.

When sulphur dioxide is passed through lime water lime water turns milky, due to formation of calcium sulphite.
SO2 + Ca(OH)2 -----> CaSO3 + H2O
Note that Calcium sulphite is milky white in colour.

Thanks!!

H2SO3 is actually nothing else than sulphurious acid.

SO2 + Ca(OH)2 -----> CaSO3 + H2O

Note that Calcium sulphite is milky white in colour.

HOPE IT HELPS ☺️
