What is obtained of a fraction by interchanging its numerator and denominator

EVALUATION

 \displaystyle \sf{Let \:  us \:  consider \:  the \:  fraction \:  \:  \frac{x}{y}  }

Then for the above fraction :

Numerator = x

Denominator = y

Now if we interchange its numerator and denominator

Then for the new fraction :

Numerator = y

Denominator = x

 \displaystyle \sf{So \:  the \:  obtained \:  new \:  fraction  =  \frac{y}{x} }

Which is the reciprocal of the given fraction

Thus the fraction which is obtained by interchanging its numerator and denominator is called reciprocal of the given fraction
