The ocean thermal energy is the energy that is derived from the phenomenon of ocean waves and layers having different temperature levels.

Explanation:

  • This different temperature levels of the ocean's surface and depth is due to the sun’s heat that falls on the surface and heats it more but does not permeate to the level of the ocean floor.
  • The energy disparity is used to obtain electricity through a process known as the OTEC or the energy conversion process.
  • These OTEC powerhouses pump the cold water and the hot water to run the cycle of power and generate thermal energy.
