The octet rulesuccessfully explains the formation of chemical bonds depending upon the nature of the element. It is used to determine stability in atoms. The octet rule helps to figure out how atoms will bond with one another

Atoms can combine either by transfer of valence electron form 1 atom to another ( gaining or losing) or by sharing of valence electron in order to have an octet in their valence shell.

It helps to explain different atom combine with each other to form ionic or covalent compounds.
