                                        OHM'S LAW

  • Ohm's law states that

                                 V ∝ I

                                 V = RI

where, the constant of proportionally R is called the resistance of the conductor.

  • The SI unit of resistance is ohm, and it is denoted by the symbol ''Ω''
  • The resistance R not only depends on the material of the conductor but also, on the dimensions of the conductor.
  • Doubling the length of a conductor doubles the resistance.
  • Resistance is proportional to length, i.e..

                                          R ∝ l

  • Having the area of the cross-section of a conductor doubles the resistance.
  • Resistance R is inversely proportional to the cross-section area

                                          R ∝ 1/A

  • For a given conductor,

                                           R ∝ ρ l/A

where, the constant of proportionality ρ depends on the material of the conductor but not on it's dimensions, ρ is called ''resistivity''.

Answer:

Ohm's law states that the current through a conductor between two points is directly proportional to the voltage across the two points.
