Reform is not a simple word. It is a constant process and movement. Great Poet Subramanya Bharathi was a freedom fighter. He fought the British to leave India. He wanted the people of India to live equally without any discrimination. No one would have dreamed for a prosperous India more better than him. He studied at Banaras University. He joined Vande matatharam movement. It was called by the people as Sanyasins group as members of the Vandematharam group wore saffron and left their families and wandered around Akhand Bharath serving the people and reforming them. They encouraged people to get education particularly the women. Sarojini Naidu was one of those attracted by the movement. I do not know how many people in India today know this Nightingale was from West Bengal. From Gandhi to Mrs. Sarojini Naidu we need to know how many freedom fighters encouraged inter caste,(Inter state,Language) marriages. We never realized that all these great people sacrificed everything to see one India where all Indians live as one family.
Bharathi wrote “Kakkai Kuruvi yen Sadhi” means Crows and little birds are my caste. When birds and animals are our community how can one discriminate human beings by caste.
Alas! We have not moved an inch ahead from the primitive mindset.Let alone the differences in castes there are several sects within each caste and these people foolishly discriminate between the sects and do not get together as one community. They do not get their children marry in other sects within the same community.
I wish these people wake up from their deep slumber and shed their vanity and stop dividing the people further.
