OPTICAL DENSITY

an optical medium with higher refractive index is be optically denser than one having a lower refractive index . Thus the ability of a medium can be expressed in terms of its optical density is different from density (mass ÷ volume) of the substance and is the property of optical medium only. A substance with lower density (mass ÷ volume) can be optically denser than other substance having higher density example water is denser than kerosene and olive oil,but kerosene and olive oil are optically denser than water
