the substances (stereoisomers) is solution or liquid state which can rotate the plane of polarised light are called as optically active and this phenomena is known as optical isomerism
the stereoisomer which rotate the plane of polarization write two words right (clockwise) to the viewer is called as dextrorotatory and the other which rotate the plane of polarized light towards left (anticlockwise) to the river is called as laevortatory .
the dextrorotatory isomer is designed as (+) while laevortatory isomer is designed as (-)
