Osmosis

(i) It occurs in liquid medium.

 (ii) it is movement of solvent (water) from area of higher water concentration to lower water concentration.

(iii)It involves movement of water ( liquid) molecule only

(iv)It requires semipermiable membrane

(v) It is active process i.e requires energy 

(vi) absorbtion of water in root hair

Diffusion

(i) It can  take place in solids , liquid  and gas.

 (ii)It is movement of solute or substance from higher concentration to lower concentration.

(iii) diffusing molecule can be solid , liquid, gas

(iv)It does not require semi-permiable membrane .

(v)It is a passive process i.e does not require energy

(vi) Eg = exchange of gases in lungs.
