a process by which molecules of a solvent tend to pass through a semipermeable membrane from a less concentrated solution into a more concentrated one.

osmosis is the passage of water from the region of higher concentration to region of lower concentration. for eg. if the amount of water present outside the roots is more than the amount of water present inside then water will move into the roots by the process of osmosis.
