The movement of water from region of higher concentration to region of low concentration through a semi preamble membrane is called osmoisis. this is usually when a solvent such as water flows into or out of a cell depending on the concentration of a solute such as salt. Osmosis happens spontaneously and without any energy on the part of the cell.

Osmosis=> The Spontaneous movement of solvent molecules through a selectively permeable membrane into a region of higher solute concentration, in the direction that tends to equalize the solute concentrations on the two sides.
