Explanation:

Osmosis:- the process of movement of water from a region of higher concentration to lower concentration is called osmosis.

let us take a few examples

1) when we keep a cell in a region of higher concentration(hypertonic solution), it swells up and finally bursts.

2) when we keep a cell in a region of lower concentration (hypotonic solution), it gets shrink.

3) when we keep cell in a isotonic solution (same concentration), it remains of the same size.

The movement of water from its higher concentration to its lower concentration through a semipermeable membrane is called as osmosis.

TWO TYPES OF OSMOSIS:-

  • when the cell is kept in a medium with higher concentration of water than the cell. This medium is called “hypotonic solution”.
  • when the concentration of the medium is lower than that of the cell. This type of osmosis occur “hypertonic” medium
