movement of water from a region of higher water concentration to a region of lower water concentration is known as osmosis.

eg. movement of water from the soil to the roots of a plant.

Osmosis : When water molecules are moved from a region of high concentration to region of low Concentration through a selectively permeable membrane, then it is called as osmosis.
Osmosis is special case of diffusion in which water is moved.
eg. movement of water from soil to root.
