osmosis is the net movement of water across a selectively permeable membrane driven by a difference in solute concentrations on the two sides of membrane .A selectively permeable membrane is one that allows unrestricted passage of water, burnout solute molecules or ions.

  • The materials are transported across the membrane by process called diffusion, osmosis and other methods.
  • Reverse osmosis work on the principle of osmosis.
  • osmosis does not take place in dead cells.
