What is our standard meridian why have we adopted a particular longitude as our standard meridian?

The standard meridian of India is 82degree 37'E passing through Mirzapur in uttar paradesh. We take 83degree 37'E as the standard time for the whole country because from Gujarat to Arunachal pradesh there is a time lag of 2 hours in order to avoid the confusion of time.
