what is our standard meridian? why have we opted a particular longitude as our standard meridian?

India lies between 68.7min where gujarat lies and 92.7 where Arunachal pradesh lies .there js a time gap of 2 hours. to avoid this 82.30 min is our standerd meridian

Indian standard time =82 degree 30 minutes east

because this central meridian passes through a place near allahabad
