Enamel is made up of 96 percent water and organic material: hydroxyaphaite Ca5(PO4)3(OH) which is crystalline calcium phosphate.

The role of toothpaste in preventing cavities is: Floride, an ingredient in toothpaste that helps prevent cavitites. Also, helps enamel to be more resostant to acidic foods and drinks, and also the bacteria living on your teeth and gums.

Sweet tooth leads to tooth decay. Which is caused by the action of Bacteria on food particles remaining in the mouth and acid is formed.

The pH of the mouth falls below 5.5 and the tooth enamel dissolves resulting in cavities.

Toothpastes are are generally basic, they neutralise the excess acid produced in the mouth and prevent tooth decay..
