The main function of the earth wire is to prevent live wire from overloading and absorbs the excess electrons & flows to beneath the ground . It is necessary because it prevents the electrical appliances from damage and absorbs the excess electricity from appliances.Short circuit is a bad electrical connection that causes a machine to stop working

Overloading : If the current drawn from the main exceeds the safety limit, then it is known as overloading. A circuit can be protected from overloading by using an electric fuse.

Short circuiting : If due to defective or damage wiring, the live and neutral wires come in direct contact, the resistance of the circuit becomes almost zero and an extremely large current flows through the circuit. This is called short circuiting.

Earth wire : It is a safety measure where the metallic body of the applicane is connected to the earth through a wire called Earth wire. It ensures any leakage of current to the metallic body of the appliance keeps its potential equal to that of the earth (zero volt) and the user may not get a severe shock.
