Answer:

Overpopulation

Overpopulation is defined as the condition where the number of existing human population and living creatures exceeds the habitats to accommodate them and not enough resources to sustain them. Overpopulation of humans is caused by a higher rate of birth and a lesser rate of death. Some major factors leading to overpopulation are--

The longevity of life, due to advances in medical science.

Awareness of hygienic living conditions.

Proper physical health knowledge.

Less mortality of mother and child before and after birth due to better health care system.

Civilization and fewer wars among communities, tribes, and nations.

While these are a boon to humanity, they do contribute to overpopulation.

Population explosion leads to several adverse consequences. The increase in population puts pressure on our resources such as land, water, and food as the demand increases. Overpopulation results in food scarcity, starvation, and malnutrition. Overpopulation results in depletion of natural resources like fossil fuels and destruction of forests for housing, construction of industries, and timber. Overfishing to feed the growing population of mankind causes food shortage to water creatures and extinction of marine life forms.

Overpopulation causes greater pollution of air, land, and water. This decreases the quality of life and results in various diseases and health problems. Overpopulation contributes to global warming.

While manpower is necessary for agricultural and industrial production, overpopulation leads to unemployment. The economy of a nation is affected adversely. Law and order situations also deteriorate. Further, the number of homeless people and slums increase.

People need to be made aware of the hazards of overpopulation. The means to control overpopulation are safe contraceptives and opting for a small family.
